Title: Maintenance Associate

Position Compensation: $20.66 - $25.05 / hour
Location: University Campus - St. Paul, Minnesota

Position Summary:
Perform general maintenance work involving plumbing repairs, service and repair to air conditioner units, minor electrical repair, light carpentry, as well as assist with supervision of student employees as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform General Building Maintenance: Carry out routine repairs and upkeep across campus facilities, including basic plumbing, minor electrical work, light carpentry, masonry, and equipment/furniture assembly/repair.
• Maintain Air‑Conditioning Systems: Service, troubleshoot, and repair window units and packaged terminal air conditioners to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
• Conduct Preventative Maintenance: Implement scheduled preventative maintenance activities for building systems, equipment, and infrastructure to reduce downtime and extend service life.
• Plan and Coordinate Maintenance Projects: Plan and schedule projects as they pertain to maintenance.
• Support Seasonal and Operational Needs: Assist with snow removal and other campus operational requirements as needed, including availability to work on-call for snow removal for snow emergencies.
• Assist Student Employee Supervision: Assist with the supervision of student employees, inspecting work, providing guidance on proper tool use, and ensuring a safe working environment.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.

Nice to Have:
• Trade school degree/training
• Three (3) years' of previous maintenance experience

Key Skills:
• Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
• Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and handles sensitive information appropriately.
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• General Maintenance: Ability to perform basic plumbing repairs/modifications, basic carpentry skills and minor electrical repairs/modifications.
• Flooring Installation: Ability to install carpet and tile.
• Student Employee Supervision: Ability to direct student employees in proper use of all tools, lifting techniques, and repair of equipment.
• Electrical Fundamentals: Knowledge of basic electrical principles.
• Air Conditioner Maintenance: Knowledge of basic air conditioner repair and maintenance.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, including on-call to assist with snow removal for snow emergencies.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
