Position Summary:
The Adjunct Nursing Faculty, School of Nursing position is a part-time position, responsible to provide excellence in teaching and/or other assigned duties consistent with the mission, philosophy, and program outcomes of the School of Nursing (SON). The responsibilities of the adjunct faculty member are dependent on assignments, which include, but are not limited to coordination of individual courses, clinical and/or laboratory positions, and supportive positions of the School of Nursing. Participation in program and curricular planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvements is strongly recommended.
We are currently seeking adjuncts with experience in 1 or more of the following areas: Medical Surgical, Inpatient Psych and Student Support.
Key Responsibilities:
A nursing adjunct faculty member has three different opportunities for service within the SON program. Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1) Course Coordinator position (Master’s Degree Required):
- Assume leadership for the course;
- Teach didactic component of the course and oversee all clinical experiences that fall within the course;
- Participate in direct clinical supervision of students as required; and,
- Ensure all course and clinical outcomes are met within the assigned course
2) Clinical and/or Lab position (Master’s Degree Required):
- Assume leadership in the supervision of students’ hands-on care with the assigned setting
3) Supportive role:
- Work is accomplished for the benefit of students and overall functioning of the SON, i.e. tutorial services; - screening medical and immunization records for compliance; help in preparation work for the CCNE accreditation visit; and, NLC Lab Coordinator
- Minimal direct interaction with students
All three positions:
- Support and accept the mission and philosophy of the University and the SON
- Create an enriching environment where learning can occur
- The SON’s requirements of being experientially prepared for the areas in which they work
- Follow the Systematic Evaluation Plan for comprehensive program review
- Assume responsibilities required in the SON’s Self-Evaluation Plan
- Assume total responsibility for assigning, supervising and evaluating students in clinical/lab areas (Clinical/Lab position only).
- Oversee orientation of students to clinical agencies and clinical expectations (Clinical/Lab position only).
- Evaluate student assignments through use of grading rubrics and upholding grading policies of the SON, (Course Coordinator/Clinical/Lab positions only).
- Serve on SON committees as requested and able, i.e. Faculty Council; Program & Curriculum Evaluation - Committee; Learning Resource Committee; and Admission & Progression Committee
- Serve as a resource person and role model for students
- Uphold University contracts with agencies, when applicable
- Maintain up-to-date files on all details of the portion of the teaching program delegated to him/her (file remains a part of SON on termination of contract)
- Keep Chief Nurse Administrator informed as to progress, incidents and serious problems of students
- Utilize evidence-based practice and best-education principles for improvement of clinical teaching
- Carry out other assignments as requested by Chief Nurse Administrator

Qualifications:
Required:
- Education: hold a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university, or the equivalent if degree is from a foreign country
- Experience: minimum of two years of RN experience preferred along with demonstrated clinical expertise
- Licensure: eligibility for a Registered Nurse license in the state of Minnesota and possession of an unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Minnesota upon assumption of duties
- Role Model: teaching excellence and a commitment to serving as a mentor for students required
- Character: Christian character; adhere to professional standards of nursing; uphold University mission; uphold Minnesota Nurse Practice Act
- Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community

- Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
- Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and handles sensitive information appropriately.
- Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
- Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for work-related purposes.
- Financial Oversight: Experience managing budgets and financial resources within assigned responsibilities.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
