Position Summary:
This full-time Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies position is responsible to help shape students’ academic and spiritual formation through teaching in Old and New Testament studies, biblical languages, and theological interpretation. This role combines a passion for scholarship with a commitment to student mentorship, community engagement, and collaborative program development and will also contribute to the broader mission of the university through research, service, and active participation in faculty collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate Old Testament and/or New Testament courses, including Bible Exposition, Hermeneutics, OT/NT Surveys, and Greek and/or Hebrew.
• Engage in ongoing research and scholarly activity.
• Prepare and deliver lectures; administer examinations; assign final grades.
• Advise students and maintain accessibility through office hours.
• Collaborate on and participate in curriculum and course development, program assessment, recruiting and retention, alumni engagement, and committee involvement and service.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Doctorate degree in Biblical Studies or equivalent (candidates in the process of finishing their dissertation will be considered)
• Previous teaching experience
• Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community

Nice to Have:
Experience teaching at a post-secondary level

• Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
• Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and handles sensitive information appropriately.
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
• Travel: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for work-related purposes.
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
