Position Summary:
This full-time Assistant Professor of Nursing position is responsible for delivering high quality nursing education rooted in competency-based education, evidence-based pedagogy, and faith integration. Faculty members at Northwestern are expected to contribute meaningfully to teaching, scholarship, service, and the spiritual formation of students while advancing the University's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Every faculty member at University of Northwestern – St. Paul, has four governing job responsibilities: teaching with effective pedagogy, serving the university through committee work and community involvement, engaging in scholarship that demonstrates discipline-specific contributions beyond UNW, and classroom faith integration. These provide the framework for the following key responsibilities:
• Teaching & Competency Based Education: Design, deliver, and evaluate nursing instruction across classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments using competency-based education principles, evidence-based pedagogy, and best teaching practices aligned with the AACN Essentials.
• Student Supervision, Assessment & Clinical Judgment: Supervise and evaluate students using approved competency evaluation tools, clinical performance measures, simulations, and formative and summative assessments that support clinical judgment, ethical decision making, and patient safety.
• Student Advising, Mentorship & Professional Identity Formation: Serve as an academic advisor and mentor, fostering students’ academic success, professional growth, accountability, and development of professional nursing identity.
• Curriculum Development, Evaluation & Accreditation Support: Participate in curriculum planning, implementation, and continuous evaluation using the School of Nursing’s Systematic Evaluation Plan, supporting program outcomes, accreditation requirements, and regulatory compliance.
• Scholarship & Evidence Based Practice: Engage in scholarly activities appropriate to rank, including the Scholarship of Teaching, Practice, and Discovery/Inquiry, and integrate evidence-based practice, quality improvement principles, and nursing science into teaching and clinical instruction.
• Clinical Practice & Practice Academic Partnerships: Maintain current clinical competence and collaborate with healthcare agencies and community partners to support clinical education, experiential learning, and alignment with contemporary nursing practice.
• Service, Governance & Institutional Support: Participate in shared governance through service on University, School, and Faculty committees and contribute to the ongoing effectiveness and mission of the institution.
• Professional Representation & Program Advancement: Represent the University and the School of Nursing professionally in internal and external settings, support student recruitment and admissions activities, and contribute to initiatives that strengthen program resources and partnerships.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from a nationally accredited nursing program
• Current or eligible for unrestricted registered nurse licensure in the state of Minnesota
• Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience in a relevant practice area
• Demonstrated ability or potential to teach nursing students in classroom, lab, simulation, and/or clinical environments, including student supervision and evaluation.
• Knowledge of or willingness to teach using competency-based education and outcomes focused assessment methods aligned with AACN Essentials.
• Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community
Nice to Have:
• PhD in Nursing or a related field, or active enrollment in a doctoral program.
• Prior nursing education experience
• Scholarship: demonstrated leadership ability, membership, and active participation in professional nursing organizations.
• Experience teaching in a prelicensure or graduate nursing program, including curriculum development, student advising, or simulation instruction
• Experience with high or low fidelity simulation, clinical evaluation tools, or integrated simulation based learning
• Experience working with healthcare agencies, clinical partners, or community organizations to support nursing education
• Participation in curriculum review, program evaluation, or accreditation activities (e.g., CCNE or ACEN)

• Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
• Travel: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for work-related purposes.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver's license
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
