Position Summary:
The Northwestern Media Engineering Internship program is a paid opportunity for individuals to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a broadcast engineer. Over the course of the 12-month training program, participants will receive hands-on training in broadcast engineering technologies, maintenance of broadcast facilities, and adherence to industry standards and FCC regulations. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be fully qualified to enter the workforce as a broadcast engineer and may be considered for available full-time positions in a location near one of our existing stations.

The duration for this position is up to 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:
• Learn and gain a thorough understanding of the fundamental FCC regulations governing broadcast operations, including but not limited to Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 73, 11, 17, and other relevant standards, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
• Develop and maintain a practical understanding of digital AoIP (Audio over Internet Protocol) airchains and studio equipment, ensuring seamless operation and troubleshooting of broadcast systems.
• Gain a practical understanding of AM, FM, and HD broadcast facilities and equipment, ensuring efficient operation and troubleshooting of broadcast systems.
• Assist Chief Engineers on the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair broadcast RF transmission equipment, including but not limited to FM transmitters, AM transmitters, AM phasing equipment, and broadcast microwave equipment.
• Assist Chief Engineers with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of broadcast studio equipment, including but not limited to studio consoles and work surfaces, routing equipment, automation systems, studio playback and recording equipment, telco interface equipment, and audio processing equipment.
• Assist Chief Engineers with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair broadcast LAN and WAN equipment, workstations, and servers. Work in cooperation with IT support and vendors to maintain IT infrastructure within established guidelines.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community

Nice To Have:
• Associate’s degree
• Strong technical aptitude required and experience with audio production
• Experience in broadcast equipment, system installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair

• Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
• Travel: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for work-related purposes.
• Financial Oversight: Experience managing budgets and financial resources within assigned responsibilities.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
