Position Summary:
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for increasing enrollment by cultivating, engaging, and supporting prospective students throughout the recruitment and admissions journey. This role manages an assigned geographic territory, builds relationships with key influencers, and communicates the value of the University of Northwestern with professionalism, persistence, and strong student‑focused service. The position contributes directly to meeting enrollment goals through effective outreach, advising, and territory management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Faith-Informed Recruitment Strategy: Steward an assigned territory with intention and care, developing and carrying out a recruitment strategy that supports enrollment goals and reflects the mission of the university.
• Christ-Centered Relationship Building: Cultivate meaningful relationships with high schools, churches, and community partners, serving as a trusted and authentic representative of the university.
• Student & Family Guidance: Walk alongside prospective students and families, offering thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and clarity as they discern their college decision.
• Service-Oriented Enrollment Experience: Provide a welcoming, responsive, and personalized experience that reflects a spirit of service, strong institutional knowledge, and a commitment to meeting students where they are.
• Application Review: Review applications with care and integrity, considering each student’s story in alignment with institutional standards and values.
• Responsible Stewardship of Data & Progress: Maintain accurate records and thoughtfully track progress, using insights to inform decisions and faithfully steward the work entrusted to you.
• Collaborative Community Engagement: Partner with admissions colleagues and the broader campus community to support recruitment efforts and create meaningful opportunities for connection.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Related experience in recruitment, advising, customer service, sales, or a similar professional field
Nice to Have: At least 1 year of professional work experience, preferably in admissions, higher education, or territory-based recruitment
Key Skills:
• Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
• Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and handles sensitive information appropriately.
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility: Maintain flexible work schedule which includes some evenings and weekends.
• Travel: Ability to travel approximately 10% of work schedule, including some out-of-town and out-of-state travel.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver's license.
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
