POSITION SUMMARY

The adjunct faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality courses that support the institution’s mission and strategic goals. Teaching assignments are offered on an as-needed basis, depending on class size and semester availability. This role requires active engagement in the classroom, timely communication, and completion of assigned teaching training modules and tasks.

This is an onsite position in Minnesota.

Hiring for Fall 2026. Subjects include: Theology, Biblical studies, Biblical interpretation and exposition, and Philosophy. Possible courses include New Testament Survey, Old Testament Survey, Interpreting Scripture, Christian Thinking & Living, Ethics, Systematic Theology, and History of Philosophy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses aligned with the institution’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Maintain a consistent, active and positive presence in the classroom, facilitating course content and engaging with students.
  • Monitor and participate in class discussions to promote interaction and learning.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and concerns, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback in a timely manner; complete required teaching training modules.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) or Masters of Divinity (M.Div.)
  • Experience integrating Christian worldview into a classroom setting
  • Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community.

Nice to have:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) with a Biblical Studies, Theology, or Philosophy emphasis.
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, or in non-academic settings.

KEY SKILLS

  • Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
  • Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and handles sensitive information appropriately.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.

  • All Adjunct Faculty are responsible for providing their own computer and home internet connection. Northwestern will provide access to programs and resources required for fulfillment of teaching responsibilities for the duration of employment.
